Itโ€™s not exactly on peopleโ€™s radar, given itโ€™s the last full winter month, but Iโ€™ll show you just why to choose it.

August is ideal for travelers who prefer exploring over sunbathing. With cooler temperatures and fewer tourists, itโ€™s the perfect month to check out hidden waterfalls, art galleries, and cozy cafรฉs with ocean views.

You might think it is unusual to head down the coast during โ€˜coldโ€™ days when most visitors choose Summer to come. However, Florianรณpolis offers much more than days spent on the beach. Coming in the off-season will give you stable weather with an added bonus of no crowds around.

I had family over last year and took them to Floripa last August for a once-in-a-lifetime trip. I canโ€™t wait to share just why it is the best month.

As we go further down this article, we will discover many essential aspects of traveling to Floripa in August. Iโ€™ll tell you tips, tricks, and the best activities to include in your itinerary, including which neighborhood is best to use as a base.

Average Temperatures in Florianรณpolis in August

Florianรณpolis weather in August is unique because weโ€™re gearing up for spring, which means the crispness of the air sometimes carries the promise of summer. But itโ€™s still cool enough for me to recommend you take your walking shoes exploring.

Honestly, there hardly will be a better time to visit Floripa. Most of the time, days are pretty nice, with temperatures at an average of 22ยฐC (thatโ€™s 71.6ยฐF for our non-metric friends). It climbs up a little from July temps.

And when the sun goes down, so do our temperatures. You might even feel a little chilly because the thermometer hardly climbs up past  15ยฐC (59ยฐF for our non-metric friends). This range gives you the leeway to go out during the day and then settle down in a nice restaurant for the evening. I advise you to have an outer layer in your bag just to avoid going all the way back to your hotel.

Is There Rain in Florianรณpolis in August

Florianรณpolis Weather in August continues the trend of not much rain. Itโ€™s the second full month of winter, so it makes sense it compares to July in rain amounts. Because thereโ€™s still so much time until summer, you wonโ€™t have to deal with summer rain showers.

When it comes to how the rain falls, itโ€™s usually a short drizzle because showers are rare. Still, because we can never be 100% sure, never forget to carry at least a small umbrella just in case you get caught by surprise.

But you never have to worry because it never rains for long enough to mess up your plans. Because Floripa is in well-balanced tropical weather, showers are generally light and short-lived during winter.

How Much Does it Rain in August?

August is about halfway into the dry season, so chances of having to deal with major rainfall are almost null. The total rain volume generally averages 95mm. This amount happens throughout eight to ten days of the month.

Again, this ainโ€™t nothing to worry about! Floripa doesnโ€™t have the type of weather where day-long drizzles happen. You will have more than enough time to be out doing whatever you have planned for your time here.

Best Things to Do in Florianรณpolis When it Rains

Well, you should never be too worried about rain, but it is better to have backup planning just in case. Floripa has so many activities available for you, no matter what the weather looks like. So, let me share with you some of:

My Favorite Activities to Do in a Rainy Floripa:

Shop at Local Markets: Rainy weather is one of the best moments to browse a couple of markets. You can head to the Public Market downtown for a great experience. Not only you will have a nice dry environment, but you will also be able to have some homecooked food, try national fruits, or even get gifts for your friends back home.

Visit Museums: Maybe one of my favorite ways to spend some time in new places is to visit a museum. It is a wonderful way to dive deeper into our culture and history, and it will give you something to talk about. Three of the best-known places in Floripa are the History Museum of Santa Catarina, the Art Museum of Santa Catarina, and the Homem do Sambaqui Museum.

Get Brazilian Coffee: If your intention is to completely blend in with Brazilians, then go inside one of many coffee shops. Thereโ€™s nothing we love more than enjoying a nice cup of coffee with a sweet pastry and good conversation.

Try a Cooking Class: If youโ€™re a more hands-on type of person, then your way of spending rainy hours can be in a cooking class. This might just be the best way to avoid getting wet, because by the end of your class, you will have a delicious dish to feast on.

Spa Day: Sometimes all we really need is a day to relax and do nothing, and if youโ€™ve reached this point in your holiday, why not have a spa day? If youโ€™re staying at a higher-end place, then your hotel may have it, but if not, then several places in town are waiting for you.

One more time: rain in coastal areas doesnโ€™t last for very long. So you will have plenty of time to enjoy your holiday and make the most of whatever comes your way.

Is it Hot in Florianรณpolis in August?

Not yet! Florianรณpolis weather in August is gearing up towards higher temperatures, but you still get the best of both worlds with sunny hours and chill temperatures. During the day, you can expect an average of 22ยฐC (thatโ€™s 71.6ยฐF).

When it gets dark, we can feel thermometers go down with the sun. Temperatures during August evenings usually have an average of 14ยฐC (thatโ€™s 57.2ยฐF). In order for you to enjoy as much time outside as possible, try to pack a light outer layer of clothing in your day-use bag; like this, you wonโ€™t have to go back to your hotel.

How Cloudy is Florianรณpolis in August?

August continues our mid-year trend of stable weather. We have very little chance of a fully cloudy day since clouds usually vanish as the sun rises. But Iโ€™d like to remind you: weather forecasting isnโ€™t an exact science, so try to be ready for anything.

Keeping your planning at heart, always check the forecast of the day to see what youโ€™re dealing with.

๐Ÿ’กPro Tip: The sun usually shines through, even on cloudy days. So try to relax when you want to and then enjoy the sunshine to go sightseeing and snap some pics.

How Humid is it in Florianรณpolis in August?

We tend to assume that lower temperatures come with dry air, but Florianรณpolis weather in August is blessed by oceans close by to keep the air comfortably humid. Relative humidity in the air remains near 90% most days. But it hardly ever feels stuffy, so youโ€™re all right to enjoy perfect weather most of the time.

Even if temperatures and humidity seem fine, the sun is still around. Keep yourself properly hydrated when out and about! Donโ€™t wear any heavy or thick fabrics; like this, you keep your body breezy to fight off humidity.

How Windy is it in Florianรณpolis in August?

Florianรณpolis weather in August sees winds begin to pick up a little as the month goes on. Wind speeds climb up from 16.4 Km/ to 17.4 Km/h (10mph to 10.8mph). Just like our temperatures, winds can be unpredictable, but this time of the year is unlikely.

Winds are the best for days when temperatures climb, and everything feels a little stuffy. As you get closer to the shore, the winds are better, so maybe try out a water-based sport like standup paddling.

When are Sunrise and Sunset in Florianรณpolis in August?

August days begin to stretch out, so you will have more daylight hours to enjoy Floripa. Sunrises usually happen early, from 6:30 until 7:00 AM. Sunsets are just a little over eleven hours later, from 6:45 to 7:00 PM.

Itโ€™s starting to compare to long summer days, with more than enough time to enjoy Floripa. Just never forget to apply sunscreen regularly; UV indexes are high, and you donโ€™t want to get a sunburn.

What to Wear in Florianรณpolis in August

When the time arrives to pack your bags for such a fantastic trip, itโ€™s important to remember all of your basics. So youโ€™re not out of anything you need, hereโ€™s a short list of essentials for this trip!

Here’s a list of items to consider:

๐Ÿ‘— Lightweight Clothing: Comfort should be your goal when packing your bags. Iโ€™d say to go for clothing made of lighter fabrics and colors as well. Try to bring your comfiest items like shorts, pants, loose tees and such.

๐Ÿ‘™ I always bring swimwear with me, no matter the occasion. Because even if the ocean is cold, there almost certainly will be a pool to enjoy.

๐Ÿฉด Comfortable Footwear: Your international vacation isnโ€™t the time to break in a new pair of shoes, no matter how cute they are. Try to stick with your trusted pairs, and keep in mind youโ€™ll go through several terrains, so prepare for that, too!

โ˜” Rain Gear: Even if it doesnโ€™t look like itโ€™ll rain, still pack the basics just to be on the safe side. A compact umbrella or a light rain jacket are going to be your besties in case it does end up raining.

๐Ÿ‘’ Sun Protection: Florianรณpolis weather in August may not feel that hot to you, but the sun can still cause some damage. So pack your favorite sunscreen and hats, or just budget to get a new one as soon as you can.

๐Ÿ‘— Evening Wear: Because weโ€™re still dealing with mostly winter weather, nights can get a little chilly. You should pack some layers to put over your day outfits, like that one jacket you have, and it goes with everything.

๐Ÿ’ง Reusable Water Bottle: Remember: tap water isnโ€™t safe for drinking anywhere in Brazil. So my recommendation is to just bring your refillable water bottle. If you do that, you wonโ€™t have to keep buying bottles, meaning that money can be better used elsewhere.

Your end goal when packing your bags should be to have comfort with all the items you take, protect yourself from the sun, and be ready for a number of situations. Because Florianรณpolis weather in August is so nice, your main concern will be having fun.

Is Florianรณpolis Safe to Travel To?

Absolutely yes! Every place Iโ€™ve looked up for research has shown Floripa to be a very safe destination. But even if it was the safest place on earth, there still are some precautions we need to take.

Each person has their own safety rules to follow when going to a new place. For me, as a person who mostly travels solo, number one is to stay at well-reviewed places. And even if you are traveling with people for company, prefer to book tickets for shows and attractions online.

Iโ€™d also recommend avoiding all isolated spots, especially after thereโ€™s no more sunlight. Always be respectful of the place youโ€™re visiting, and make a point to follow social conduct rules and whatever else may be in place.

As a visitor, it is best to stick to trustworthy methods of transportation. Iโ€™d say to use ride-sharing apps like Uber or 99, or even splurge on a rental car if you can! Another important thing to do is to keep people who care about you in the loop of your plans.
